Another big hit from the gaming world is crossing the lines and gets a movie adaptation. This time, Variety reports, crossfire, a mega-hit that was developed by the South Korean developer Smilegate, will be made into a movie by Sony Pictures.

The movie will be co-produced by Teneent Pictures who will also provide some of the financings. Neal H. Moritz from Fast & Furious will produce the movie through his Original Film banner based on a script by Chuck Hogan. Other movies Moritz produced for the studio include 21 Jump Street and Bloodshot. He also produced Sonic the Hedgehog for Paramount.

The 2007 game was originally developed for PC but was extended to other platforms and became an online game. According to the developer, it has 1 billion registered users worldwide with 6 million active players. The game also has a global esports league “Crossfire Stars” with 20 million average viewers for each event.
