South Park will continue running until 2020. That’s at least three more seasons of politically incorrect cartoon comedy.

South Park first aired in 1997 and it has been going strong for 23 seasons. It is currently the second longest-running animated series of all time, beaten only by The Simpsons. Now, it is heading towards a minimum of 26 seasons.

“I don’t think we have ever had an ‘OK, let’s sit down and decide if we are going to keep going,’” creator Trey Parker told The Hollywood Reporter.

Co-creator Matt Stone added: “I am 48. Trey turns 50 this year. So I will say that I don’t think we will be doing this show when we’re 60.”

In addition to creating three more seasons of the show, the creators are considering making another feature. It has been 20 years since the arrival of the South Park movie: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.

“We think of ourselves as filmmakers, and it’s like, everyone is doing TV now,” said Stone. “It’s like, movies, even though the movie business is all f***ed up. And everyone will tell you don’t go into movies. We just want to do a movie.”

The new season of South Park airs September 23 on Comedy Central.
