HBO confirmed that Blade star Stephen Dorff is joining the third season of their acclaimed series True Detective. Dorff joins the cast that is currently consisting of Mahershala Ali and Carmen Ejogo. These three names are the only known cast members so far, but it is expected that further information will be revealed soon since the filming is scheduled for spring 2018.

Ali will portray the lead character Wayne Hays, who is a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas. Dorff joins as his partner, Roland West, described as “an Arkansas State Investigator who, along with his partner, has his life and career influenced over three decades by a baffling crime.” Ejogo is set to play Amelia Reardon, an Arkansas schoolteacher.

The short synopsis says season three of True Detective “tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.”

Nic Pizzolatto, creator of True Detective, will write all the episodes of the season and co-wrote episode four with David Milch (NYPD Blue and Deadwood). Pizzolatto will also direct alongside Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room and Hold the Dark).

Stephen Dorff started his acting career in the late ’80s, landing minor roles in TV series and movies. He scored his first major role in the horror movie The Gate, and then went on to play in movies like S.F.W., Backbeat, and Blade in which he portrayed vampire Deacon Frost. His latest major movie role was in the Texas Chain Saw Massacre prequel Leatherface, where he portrayed Texas Ranger Hal Hartman.
