For the first time in 39-year, Indiana Jones will not be directed by Steven Spielberg.

Multiple outlets report that the fifth installment in the adventure franchise won’t be directed by the acclaimed filmmaker. Set to take on the reins is director James Mangold, who’s in talks to take over the gig.

According to a source, “The decision to hand over directing duties was entirely Steven’s,” adding that, “he felt now was the perfect time to let a new director and a new generation give their perspective to the overall story and this film.”

Mangold’s directorial titles include Ford v Ferrari, Wolverine, and Logan

The new film written by David Koepp is set to hit theaters on July 9, 2021.
