Stranger Things returned to Netflix last week and it didn’t take long for this series to turn its viewership record Upside Down. Volume 1 of the fourth season drew 286.79 million hours viewed this weekend, marking this the best-ever debut weekend for an English-language series.

Stranger Things 4: Volume 1 breaks the record previously held by Bridgerton. The second season of the beloved period drama hit 193 million hours over its own premiere weekend. Stranger Things is yet to break Bridgerton’s 28-day record with 656.2 million hours viewed four weeks after Season 2 premiered on the platform.

The all-time 28-day record is still held by the South Korean survival drama Squid Game. This show created quite a splash after it premiered on Netflix last year, tilling 1.65 billion hours viewed in its first four full weeks on the platform.

In addition to setting a new debut weekend record for an English-language series, the new season of Stranger Things also set another record by reaching No. 1 in 83 countries. It also made it to the top ten in all 93 countries Netflix is tracking.

Stranger Things 4: Volume 1 consisted of seven episodes and two more are on the way. They’re set to premiere on Netflix on July 1, concluding the show’s fourth season.
