Stranger Things fans are no strangers to wild theories and one of them went out of control. After rumors about possible re-edits of old scenes went viral, Stranger Things writers decided to publicly speak up and deny ever changing any of the scenes from previous seasons.

British GQ claimed that the show went back to retroactively change some of the scenes in the article, “Netflix retroactively editing Stranger Things is the beginning of a dangerous TV trend”. The article was based on the internet rumor that the scene that shows Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) photographing Nancy (Natalia Dyer) without her knowledge has been removed from the most recent edits.

Stranger Things writers denied the rumor by tweeting, “PSA: no scenes from previous seasons have ever been cut or re-edited. And they never will be.” GQ later issued a correction, and Stranger Things writers tweeted that “it’s hilarious that an article bashing the show for retroactively editing a scene (based on a false TikTok rumor) has now had to retroactively edit their own article.”

To be fair, the Duffer Brothers were partially responsible for starting these rumors after admitting they’d forgotten Will’s birthday. They said they’ll change his birthday by re-editing the scenes and suggested they’ve done it before by saying, “We have George Lucas’d things also that people don’t know about.”
