After keeping us on the edge of our seat episode after episode, Succession ended with a bang on Sunday night. A happy ending wasn’t in the cards for the main characters, and creator Jesse Armstrong revealed what the future holds for Kendall, Shiv, and Roman after that intense finale.

(SPOILERS AHEAD)

The last episode of Succession was one wild rollercoaster, and it saw the GoJo deal finally go through. Despite being promised the American CEO position by the GoJo boss Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård), Shiv Roy (Sarah Snook) is pushed aside again in favor of her husband Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen).

It’s a shocking twist that makes sense in the grand scheme of things, but what the future holds for the Roy kids after selling their father’s company? Series creator Jesse Armstrong spilled the beans in Max’s Controlling the Narrative featurette, and it seems Kendall (Jeremy Strong) will be in the worst position after the finale.

“For Kendall, this will never stop being the central event of his life… Maybe he could go on and start a company, or do a thing. But the chances of him achieving the sort of corporate status that his dad achieved are very low,” said Armstrong.

As for Roman (Kieran Culkin), Armstrong believes that he ends up exactly where he started, and “this has been a bit of a detour in his life.” Shive, on the other hand, is in “a rather terrifying, frozen emotionally barren place”, but she’s still in the play. All siblings, overall, will have a hard time progressing after the terrible things they’ve said about each other, according to Armstrong.
