Idris Elba has squad goals.

It was recently reported by Variety that the sequel to Suicide Squad would have to go ahead without its lead, Will Smith.

The original film focused on the villains of the DC Universe, including Jared Leto as The Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Smith as Deadshot.

A very busy filming schedule meant that the Aladdin actor was forced to pull out of the sequel, entitled The Suicide Squad, but it seems that producers have found a worthy replacement.

According to sources, the role of the assassin and expert marksman is set to be played by Idris Elba.

If the reports are true, it will mark the Luther star’s first foray into the world of comic book films.

The Suicide Squad, directed by James Gunn, is scheduled to begin production in September ahead of release on the 6th of August, 2021.
