Netflix’s adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel Persuasion is underway, and it seems like its lead star Dakota Johnson will be in a pretty good company. The cast of this project now includes Cosmo Jarvis, Richard E. Grant, Suki Waterhouse, and Nikki Amuka-Bird.
Persuasion will center on Anne Elliot, an uncomforting woman living with her snobby family on the brink of bankruptcy whose life turns upside down after she reconnects with Frederick Wentworth, a dashing man from her past that she once sent away.
Shortly after Johnson was announced as the lead, Henry Golding joined the cast, but it turns out he won’t play the love interest of Johnson’s character. That honor belongs to Cosmo Jarvis, who got his big break with the role in the period drama Lady Macbeth.
Despite the Austenian source material, Persuasion won’t be a period drama and it will offer a modern take on the novel it’s based on. Searchlight Pictures is currently developing another adaptation inspired by this timeless love story, set to star the Succession actress Sarah Snook.
