Starz has axed Sweetbitter.
Multiple outlets confirm that the restaurant drama will not return for season 3, which means that the series’ season 2 finale, which aired in August, now will serve as its series finale.
Sweetbitter was based on the book of the same name by Stephanie Danler. It followed a 22-year-old woman (Ella Purnell) who, after arriving in New York, lands a job at a posh downtown restaurant, struggling to fit in among characters like bartender Jake (Tom Sturridge) and server Simone (Caitlin FitzGerald).
Per The Hollywood Reporter, season one averaged 164,000 live-same-day viewers, with that number slipping to 93,000 in season two. The series also had mixed reviews among critics, with an 88 percent score among viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.
