]]>Series creator and executive producer Kenya Barris announced its ending in an emotional Instagram post and thanked everyone who joined him on this incredible journey.
“In this day and age it is rare to get to decide when your show should come to an end, and we are grateful along with ABC to be able to make this final season exactly what we’d hoped for—and to do it with the entire and AMAZINGLY STELLAR cast coming back to close this chapter out with us the right way!” wrote Barris on Instagram.
Black-ish followed the trials and tribulations of an upper-middle-class African-American family and shone a light on many important social issues through their lens. Its ensemble cast included Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Yara Shahidi, Marcus Scribner, Miles Brown, and Marsai Martin.
In addition to announcing the final season of Black-ish, ABC also recently canceled its spin-off Mixed-ish. The future of Grown-ish remains uncertain since it airs on Freeform and not ABC.

Black-ish’s creator Kenya Barris will write and produce the project which will center around Ruby and Earl as they try to make their relationship work after moving to a gentrified neighborhood of Los Angeles while meeting characters who represent the old and new faces of the community.
In addition to Black-ish, ABC also airs Mixed-ish, which tells Rainbow Johnson’s (Tracee Ellis Ross) childhood story, and Freeform airs the spinoff series Grown-ish, which centers around Zoey (Yara Shahidi) as she navigates college life.
Old-ish will be a return to ABC for Barris who left his overall deal with the network in 2018 after getting a deal with Netflix. While with Netflix, he’s created the single-cam comedy series #BlackAF which was picked up for a second season.
