Cobra Kai established itself as one of Netflix’s most reliable shows since its premiere, but all good things must come to an end. The streamer renewed the hit series for its sixth and final season and promised it will be its biggest, baddest season yet.

Creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg released an official statement announcing the show’s renewal and cancelation and described this decision as bittersweet.

“Reacquainting the world with the Karate Kid universe has been our humble honor… It has also enabled us to play sensei, expanding the original storylines and birthing a new generation of underdogs. We’ve never once taken this opportunity for granted,” said the trio.

They also added it’s always been their goal to end Cobra Kai on their own terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place they’ve always imagined, and they’re immensely proud and thankful to get the opportunity to do just that in Season 6.

Cobra Kai continued the canon of the hit movie Karate Kid and shifted the focus to underdog-turned-hero Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and misunderstood bully Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), whose destinies are still tied even 30 years after the original films.

The show’s cast featured a mix of old and new faces, including Xolo Maridueña, Courtney Henggeler, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Peyton List, and Vanessa Rubio.

Netflix martial arts show Cobra Kai will bring back another major The Karate Kid character for its upcoming season four. The show’s creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg confirmed in a press release that The Karate Kid III villain Terry Silver would be included in the story, with Thomas Ian Griffith reprising his role from the original film.

Silver was referenced on several occasions in Cobra Kai, and his possible appearance was hinted throughout the show’s first three seasons. According to Heald, Jon, and Schlossberg, this was intentional as they intended to bring back the character all along.

“Since the beginning of the series, we’ve been carefully orchestrating the right moment to unleash Cobra Kai dojo co-founder Terry Silver back into the universe. That moment is now,” they said in a statement.

Netflix also confirmed the news by releasing a teaser trailer featuring Thomas Ian Griffith as Silver.

Terry Silver was introduced in The Karate Kid III as a karate expert, wealthy businessman, and war veteran. Silver is the one who created Cobra Kai dojo and then gave its control to his friend John Kreese as a gift. Following his downfall in the first two movies, Kreese turns to Silver to help him get revenge on Daniel and Mr. Miyagi.

Silver can be seen in season three of Cobra Kai, appearing during flashbacks where he is played by Nick Marini. He is also on the other side of Kreese’s phone call in the last episode, but his face isn’t shown.

Season four of Cobra Kai has wrapped up filming in April. The new episodes will come to Netflix at some point in 2021.

The future of the Netflix hit TV shows was unclear but it was finally announced that The Witcher, You, and Cobra Kai will be returning in the fourth quarter of the year.

“What happened in the first part of this year was that a lot of the projects that we’d hoped to come out earlier did get pushed because of the post-production delays and Covid delays and we think we’ll get back to a much steadier state in the back half of the year,” co-CEO and Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said during the company’s investor video.

“Certainly in Q4 where we have the returning seasons of some of our most popular shows like The Witcher and You and Cobra Kai as well as some big tentpole movies that came to market a little slower than we’d hoped like Red Notice and Escape From Spiderhead,” he continued.

The Witcher, which stars Henry Cavill, finished production on the second season earlier this month after being in production for over a year.

You debuted in December 2019 and was renewed for a third season in January 2020 and it stars Penn Badgley and Victoria Pedretti.

Cobra Kai was released in May 2018 and it will be returning for the fourth season. The show stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka who reprise their roles from 1984’s The Karate Kid.

Cobra Kai, the sequel series of the 1984’s classic The Karate Kid movie trilogy, garnered high critical praise and popularity with its first two seasons. The show aired on YouTube red, but as the company decided to move its focus away from originally scripted content, Sony Pictures Entertainment looked for a new home for the series and Netflix was happy to give it one.

The first two seasons will go on air toward the end of the month, and a third season was announced to be coming next year. Now, Netflix showcased its new acquisition by releasing an official trailer for the show.

The trailer recaps the events that took place in the original movie and the series, showing the rivalry between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka)—dating to their childhood and ongoing into their adult years. The trailer also teases the next season, revealing that LaRusso may not be aware of his Former teacher Mr. Miyagi’s past.

The Series features appearances from numerous actors reprising their roles from the original movie. Apart from the two main characters, we also meet Daniel’s mom and Lawrence’s old evil teacher. Its focus, however, is on the next generation of the karate students—Miguel Diaz (Xolo Mariduena), a student of Lawrence in his reopened dojo, Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan), Lawrence’s son who trains with LaRusso and Samantha LaRusso (Mary Mouser), Daniel’s rebellious daughter.
