Johnson’s future in this action franchise is looking bright after the success of Fast X, and he could appear in several new projects. In addition to leading his own movie, written by Chris Morgan, the door is open for him to return as Hobbs in the next installment of the mothership franchise.

Johnson teased his return on social media and revealed he agreed to come back after ending his feud with the Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel.

“Last summer, Vin Diesel and I put all the past behind us. We’ll lead with brotherhood and resolve – and always take care of the franchise, characters & FANS that we love. I’ve built my career on an “audience first” mentality and that will always serve as my North Star,” he wrote on Instagram.

Johnson previously played Luke Hobbs in another spin-off—Hobbs & Shaw—but his newly announced Hobbs film will be a standalone project, instead of serving as its sequel.

In a recent cover story for The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson discussed his feud with co-star Vin Diesel, who previously stated he gave him “tough love” to elicit a better acting performance, while also revealing he won’t be returning for any future Fast & Furious movies.

“I’ve wished them well. I wish them well on Fast 9. And I wish them the best of luck on Fast 10 and Fast 11 and the rest of the Fast & Furious movies they do that will be without me,” Johnson told the magazine.

Johnson made his debut as Luke Hobbs in Fast Five back in 2011 and went on to reprise the role in four more movies—including the recent spin-off Hobbs & Shaw, also starring Jason Statham. The most recent movie in the franchise, F9, came out back in May and it’s expected to be followed by two more sequels.

Cipher was introduced in The Fate of the Furious, the eighth entry in the franchise, as a cyberterrorist and criminal mastermind who forces Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) to work against his team. The character is prominently featured in the most recent movie, F9, as well.

Diesel himself confirmed the news about the Cipher-centered spinoff, telling Variety that he already told the writers to start working on the script. It is unclear whether the movie is a long-rumored female-led spinoff or a separate project.

If the feature ends up being made, it would be the second Fast and Furious spinoff to come to theaters. The first one, titled Hobbs & Shaw, was released in 2019 with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham reprising their roles as Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw from the original movies. It ended up being a big box office hit, earning $760 million worldwide while receiving mostly positive reviews from the critics.

A sequel to Hobbs & Shaw is currently being planned, although the project is still in the early stages.

In the meantime, the main Fast and Furious film series is nearing its end. The story is expected to wrap up with two more movies, which will be shot back-to-back in early 2021.

When the movie began slow on the box offices, one of the Fast & Furious crew, Tyrese Gibson, was fast to glee, claiming The Rock is selfish and wondering if the spin-off will not turn out to be another Baywatch in his career.

This week also saw The Lion king come in second place in the box office in its 3^rd weekend with 38.2 million dollars in domestic sales. Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood came in 3^rd with 20 million dollars on his 2^nd weekend.

Vin Diesel has revealed that Jordana Brewster will be back in the passenger seat for the newest installment of the franchise.

The Lethal Weapon actress did not appear in the last film, The Fate of the Furious, following the real-life death of Paul Walker who played her on-screen love interest.

Diesel posted a video of himself and Brewster — who plays his sister Mia — from the set of Fast 9 in London. On Brewster’s lap is a young boy who will be playing her and Brian’s (Walker) son.

“Day 4!!! Grateful to make magic… with angels abound,” Diesel captioned the post.

He and Brewster join the rest of the cast — Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Nathalie Emmanuel, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, and John Cena — in the film helmed by Justin Lin that is out on May 22nd, 2020.

In addition to the two films, a Fast and the Furious television series will be launched on Netflix.

Dwayne Johnson treated his fans to their first sneak peek at the action-filled spinoff. The snap of Johnson and his co-star Jason Statham is the epitome of staring competitions and was captioned with, “FIRST LOOK: HOBBS & SHAW. We either gonna get along or we gonna get it on,” Johnson captioned the photo. “F–k getting along.”

“Great first week of shooting our Fast & Furious spin-off, HOBBS & SHAW with my ace @jasonstatham,” he continued. “We’re havin’ a blast disrupting the norm to deliver something fresh, cool, fun and badass for the fans.”

This isn’t the first time fans get a sneak peek at what’s happening on the set of Hobbs and Shaw. Back in September Statham took to Instagram and posted a behind-the-scenes snap.
