]]>Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced the merger at a press event on Wednesday, and described it as their “rendezvous with destiny.” Warner Bros. is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, and Zaslav described 2023 as a year of coming together and building Warner Bros. Discovery into the next century.
The newly launched streaming service will go live on May 23, almost three years after HBO Max was officially introduced. It will include first and third-party content from several networks and movie studios, including Warner Bros, HBO, Cartoon Network, Discovery Channel, and many more. Several monthly plans will be available, ranging in price between $9.99 and $19.99.
To build the hype for this merger, Max unveiled trailers for several of its upcoming shows and announced a few more. The first look at The Regime starring Kate Winslet and The Sympathizer starring Robert Downey Jr. is here, but the streamer is also plotting new shows in the Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and The Big Bang Theory universe.

]]>The comedy series led by Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson was well into the filming of its second season, set to wrap up this week. Its co-creator Lionsgate TV released an official statement thanking HBO Max for their “good partnership”, and said they’re working on finding a new home for Minx, so current and new viewers can continue this journey with them.
Minx is only the latest in the long line of shows to be pulled from HBO Max as the streamer goes through the slate review. They previously pulled Gordita Chronicles from its platform, followed by the removal of Anna Kendrick’s Love Life, which just happened to be HBO Max’s first original scripted show.
The Joss Whedon-created The Nevers has also been removed from HBO Max in the middle of its first season, but the biggest shocker came when the streamer decided to pull Westworld, as well. This sci-fi series is one of its most recognizable projects in the past few years, and it will likely resurface on some other streaming platform.

]]>The post Warner Bros. Shelves Completed ”Batgirl” Film appeared first on EverydayKoala.
]]>Back in 2021, Warner Bros. decided to create a number of feature films specifically for HBO Max. Amongst those greenlit for the streaming network was Batgirl. The film would be based on the DC Comics character, Barbara Gordon, who is the daughter of Gotham City’s police commissioner and moonlights as a vigilante.
Leslie Grace of In The Heights had been cast in the titular role with Spider-Man: No Way Home star J.K. Simmons playing Commissioner James Gordon, Doom Patrol actor Brendan Fraser as Firefly, and Morbius star Michael Keaton appearing as Batman.
Filming took place in Scotland between November 2021 and March 2022 with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah of Bad Boys fame helming the project.
Despite the movie being complete, Warner Bros. has decided not to release it on HBO Max or, in fact, anywhere at all. The decision is reportedly due to the company’s desire for DC films to rather be theatrical blockbusters. As Batgirl was budgeted to screen in homes on HBO Max, and not for a major global release in theaters, the $90 million production has effectively been killed.
The Scooby-Doo adaptation, Scoob!: Holiday Haunt, which would have served as a sequel to the 2020 film, Scoob!, has also been shelved by the studio.

]]>As the daughter of Johnny Depp and singer Vanessa Paradis, Lily-Rose is not in short supply when it comes to talent. The 23-year-old actress has previously starred alongside Timothée Chalamet, Colin Farrell, Keira Knightley, and Gary Oldman, and is now set to take the lead in HBO Max’s new show The Idol.
The series is the brainchild of Sam Levinson who created Euphoria, as well as Abel Tesfaye — better known as The Weeknd. The “Blinding Lights” singer stars as a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult who begins dating a pop star played by Depp.
“The sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood” states the tagline in the trailer that presents like a debaucherous mix of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll. Part of Depp and Tesfaye’s complicated relationship can be seen when he asks if she trusts him and she responds with, “Not really”.
Other members of the cast include Troye Sivan, Debby Ryan, Rachel Sennott, Steve Zissis, Hari Nef, and Juliebeth Gonzalez.
The Idol will feature 6 episodes, with a premiere date yet to be announced.

]]>The post “Raised by Wolves” Canceled by HBO Max After Two Seasons appeared first on EverydayKoala.
]]>HBO Max has chosen to cancel the sci-fi series produced by House of Gucci director, Ridley Scott.
“While we are not proceeding with a third season of Raised by Wolves, we are beyond grateful to the stellar cast and crew, our creators Aaron Guzikowski, Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, and the entire team at Scott Free Productions, for their beautiful artistry and unique ability to immerse fans into the world of Kepler-22b,” the network said in a statement.
Premiering in September 2020, the series marked Scott’s first television directing role in his five-decade career. Set in a future in which the Earth was destroyed in a great war, Raised by Wolves centers around two androids that are tasked with raising human children on the exoplanet Kepler-22b. Religious differences threaten to divide the human colony, with the androids soon learning just how difficult it can be to control people’s beliefs.
The series was renewed for a second season shortly after its debut, with both seasons being warmly received by critics. However, structural changes at WarnerMedia, which owns HBO Max, have resulted in the cancellation of several shows.
It is possible that another platform may pick up Raised by Wolves for a third season, with Abubaker Salim, who plays Father, encouraging fans of the series to be as vocal as they can to help make it happen.
