It will center on an idealistic young politician, who’s preparing to take over the job of her mentor, the state’s longtime incumbent governor, while juggling familial issues and a challenging work life.
In addition to Mackey (S-x Education) and Harrelson (The Hunger Games), this promising project will also star Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), Albert Brooks (Drive), Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals), and Spike Fearn (Tell Me Everything).
Steve Asbell, president of 20th Century Studios, said they’re looking forward to joining forces with Brooks for his first film in years.
“As one of the most empathetic dramatists of our time, James Brooks has set the bar across film and television for decades. Jim is also a foundational element in the bedrock of 20th and we couldn’t be more proud to support him in his long-awaited return to the director’s chair,” said Asbell in a statement.

]]>Curtis recently took to social media to post a drawing of the One Piece character Doctor Kureha, and captioned it by writing, “ONCE the STRIKE against the greed of the AMTPT is SETTLED with a FAIR CONTRACT, I will lobby along with the growing fan frenzy to become Doctor Kureha.”
Matt Owens, who co-created One Piece for Netflix alongside Steven Maeda, was quick to respond and told Curtis that the role is hers if she wants it.
“Mommy dearest, that’s why we sent you that figure! No need to lobby. Once we get what we deserve and get back to work let’s talk!” wrote Owens on Instagram.
Curtis expressed a desire to play Doctor Kureha long before Netflix filmed their live-action adaptation of the beloved manga series One Piece. Her daughter Ruby introduced her to this franchise, and she initially wanted to be Nico Robin before setting her eyes on Kureha because she felt this character was more age-appropriate for her to portray.

]]>Based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel of the same name, Freaky Friday was adapted for the screen on three separate occasions, but the 2003 version really stuck with modern audiences. It centers on a mother-daughter duo Anna and Tess Coleman, who are forced to get a better understanding of each other after their bodies have been mysteriously switched.
Curtis and Lohan have both been open to coming back for the sequel for quite some time, and they finally confirmed their return in a recent interview with The New York Times.
“As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday. Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made,” said Curtis.
Freaky Friday also starred Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Rosalind Chao, Lucille Soong, and Julie Gonzalo, but it’s still unclear if any of them will be back for the sequel.

]]>Kay Scarpetta is the protagonist in 26 books written by Cornwell, which sold over 100 million copies over the years, starting with Postmortem in 1990. Scarpetta is a medical examiner, who often relies on forensic science in her investigations.
The Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman will portray the titular character, while Curtis will play the protagonist’s sister Dorothy. Her involvement doesn’t come as a surprise after Curtis’ Comet Pictures and Blumhouse Television secured the right for this book series in 2021.
“Patricia Cornwell is a bonafide literary trailblazer, and collaborating with her to bring her beloved character Kay Scarpetta to life through the power of television and to introduce her to an entirely new audience is exciting,” said Curtis in a statement.
Liz Sarnoff, best known for her work on Barry, will write the series and serve as its showrunner. According to Deadline, Kay Scarpetta is nearing a two-season straight-to-series order at Prime Video, with eight episodes per season, but Amazon is yet to make things official.

The sequel to John Carpenter’s 1978 classic has scored the second-highest October opening ever, behind Venom’s $80.3 million earlier this month. Overseas, Halloween generated $14.3 million this weekend.
The film ignores the nine other remakes and picks up 40 years later, with Laurie Strode (Curtis) preparing for her inevitable rematch with masked killer Michael Myers,(James Jude Courtney).
“I am enormously proud of this film,” Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions, who co-financed the film with Miramax said in a statement. “Halloween brings the franchise back to life in a fresh, relevant and fun way that is winning over fans and critics alike.”
“There had been quite some time between the original film,” Jim Orr, Universal’s president of domestic distribution said. “You combine that with the return of a tremendous star in Jamie Lee Curtis, great writing, great filmmaking. All of that comes together as a perfect storm.”
Curtis celebrated the film’s opening on Twitter, writing, “OK. I’m going for one BOAST post. Biggest horror movie opening with a female lead. Biggest movie opening with a female lead over 55. Second biggest October movie opening ever. Biggest Halloween opening ever.”
Rounding out the top five this weekend are A Star Is Born, with about $19.3 million; Venom, with about $18.1 million; Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, with about $9.7 million; and First Man, with about $8.6 million.

]]>Joseph attended this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego for one specific purpose — to meet Jamie Lee Curtis.
The 59-year-old actress was at the event to promote the sequel to her 1978 thriller, Halloween. The film tells the story of serial killer, Michael Myers, who kills teenage babysitters on the night of Halloween. Eeek! The movie, which turns 40 this year, inspired Joseph how to act when an intruder came into his home.
Speaking to Jamie who was on the Halloween panel, Joseph revealed to the audience that he was at home when a stranger cut his phone line and broke into his house.
“Our dog, Duchess, bit up these knitting needles and I grabbed them out of the trash and I saw the guy with the knife on one side of the house. I was scared out of my mind and out of nowhere this thought came inside of me, ‘What would Jamie Lee Curtis do?’ I ran out, ran down to the neighbors, started screaming like you did in the movie. To make a long story short, I’m here today because of the way that you portrayed Laurie Strode. I’m a victor today instead of a victim.”
The actress was understandably moved to tears (we are too!) and spent time speaking with Joseph backstage following the panel.
Let’s see what Jamie Lee Curtis does in the new Halloween which comes out October 19th.
