Olivia Coleman became the first British actress to win an Oscar in the best actress category since Kate Winslet in 2009. She also wins the Everyday Koala nod of approval for her endearing acceptance speech.

“It’s genuinely quite stressful,” Coleman quipped when she got up on stage, tears already streaming down her face. “This is hilarious. I got an Oscar!”

“I have to thank lots of people,” she said, totally overwhelmed by her win. “If, by the way, I forget anybody, I’m going to give you all a massive snog and I’m really sorry if I might forget now.”

She goes onto thank The Favourite team, giving special thanks to her co-stars Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz whom she describes as “the loveliest women in the world.” She then thanks her agent, Lindy King, who took her on over 20 years ago. She may have started out as a side character on Peep Show but now she is a fully acclaimed Oscar nominee and winner.

She then thanks her mom, dad, her kids at home watching and added: “Any little girl who’s practising their speech on the telly, you never know. I used to work as a cleaner and I loved that job but I did spent quite a lot of time imagining.”

When given the signal to wrap things up, she charmingly blew a raspberry and continued to thank her husband, the cast, crew and gave a shout out to Lady Gaga. It was a babbling ramble but it was easily the most charming speech of the night.

If you still haven’t learned who Olivia Colman is, now’s the perfect time. The British actress is on fire right now, and she’s ready to grace fans of The Crown with her amazing talent. The first image of Colman as Queen Elizabeth just dropped and she’s everything we’ve ever wanted – and more!

Netflix’s decision to replace the cast after two seasons came as a surprise for some of the fans, but it probably shouldn’t have. It was always their plan to look for older actors as the show moved on in the timeline. Claire Foy’s portrayal of young Queen Elizabeth was well-received and garnered her Golden Globe. Her successor Olivia Colman knows it won’t be easy to follow in her footsteps, but she’s up for the challenge.

“I’m so thrilled to be part of The Crown. I was utterly gripped watching it, a proper ‘just one more’ feeling. I think Claire Foy is an absolute genius, she’s an incredibly hard act to follow. I’m basically going to re-watch every episode and copy her!” said the actress.

First still of Olivia Colman in The Crown didn’t reveal much, but it was enough to spark our imagination. Queen Elizabeth can be seen at her breakfast table, with a cup of tea in hand and a determined look on her face. Season three of The Crown will follow the royal family from 1964 to 1976. The release date is still a mystery, but it’s highly unlikely it will premiere before 2019.

Arise, Tobias Menzies!

As The Crown continues to sweep the controversy of its pay discrepancies under the royal carpet, Netflix has announced just who will be sitting on the throne for the upcoming season.

Claire Foy and Matt Smith have been at the helm for the show’s first 2 seasons as Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip, respectively.

But with the series-deciding to fast forward a few years in the life of her royal highness, new castings have been finalized for the roles.

Broadchurch actress, Olivia Coleman, had already been confirmed as taking over the role from Miss Foy, with Matt’s replacement now having been announced as Outlander actor, Tobias Menzies.

The pair will fill the roles for seasons 3 and 4 and will be joined by Les Misérables actress, Helena Bonham Carter, as Princess Margaret.

We hope that Netflix sticks to its decree that no one will be paid higher than the Queen.
