The film’s wild plotline doesn’t come as a huge shocker considering it hails from the Co–ine Bear screenwriter Jimmy Warden. Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara will produce the film via their LuckyChap banner. They have a great track record working with female directors – most recently with Greta Gerwig on Barbie and Emerald Fennell on Saltburn.

Wilde made a major shift from acting to directing in recent years, and it all started with her critically acclaimed feature debut Booksmart. Its follow-up Don’t Worry Darling came out last year and it starred Florence Pugh and Harry Styles, but it wasn’t received just as warmly by the critics.

A24 is best known for its films, including the most recent best picture Oscar winner Everything Everywhere All At Once, but this won’t be their first foray into television. Their most recent series Beef is currently taking Netflix by storm, and the list of their TV credits also includes HBO’s Euphoria and Irma Vep, Hulu’s Ramy, and Showtime’s Ziwe.

Olivia Wilde, who features as one of the Chambers’ neighbors, also directed the flick, which marks her follow-up to 2019’s Booksmart. She said during CinemaCon 2022 that the movie was inspired by Inception, The Matrix, and The Truman Show. 

The film’s first official trailer has now been released and suffice it to say that it feels like a fever dream. It’s easy to see why Alice feels the walls are literally closing in on her. 

Chris Pine plays the CEO of Jack’s company and is fittingly creepy as he tells the young lady, “I’ve been waiting for someone like you, someone to challenge me…”

The rest of the cast is rounded out by Gemma Chan, KiKi Layne, Nick Kroll, Sydney Chandler, Kate Berlant, Asif Ali, Douglas Smith, Timothy Simons, and Ari’el Stachel.

Wilde posted a photo of Styles on Instagram, accompanied by a caption in which she discussed how “most male actors don’t want to play supporting roles in female-led films.” She added that the ex-One Direction member approached the opportunity with a different mindset and embraced the opportunity.

“He didn’t have to join our circus, but he jumped on board with humility and grace and blew us away every day with his talent, warmth, and ability to drive backward,” Wilde wrote.

Don’t Worry Darling is set in the 1950s and focuses on “unhappy housewife” Alice (Florence Pugh), who finds out her husband Jack’s (Harry Styles) dark secret. Styles joined the project in September, stepping in for Shia LaBeouf.

The rest of the film’s cast includes Chris Pine, Wilde, Gemma Chan, and KiKi Layne. The shooting wrapped up in early February and the film is expected to be released in late 2021.

Don’t Worry Darling will be Harry Styles’ second movie appearance after he played a supporting role in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk. His next project is the adaptation of Bethan Roberts’ novel My Policeman, in which he plays the lead.

After a bidding war with 18 bids, New Line Cinemas bought the rights to the film in August 2019. The deal came after Wilde’s critically acclaimed directorial debut Booksmart.

Styles’ acting debut was in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk. After casting Styles, Nolan told journalists that he chose the singer for the role because “he has an old-fashioned face … the kind of face that makes you believe he could have been alive in that period.”

Production for Don’t Worry, Darling is set to begin this fall.

While Wilde is in the middle of shooting the Clint Eastwood film, The Ballad of Richard Jewell, her own follow-up stint behind the camera is creating quite a stir behind the scenes.

At least 18 studios, including streamers, are bidding for Don’t Worry, Darling which the 35-year-old will both direct and star in.

The film has been described as a psychological thriller about a 1950s housewife whose reality begins to crack, revealing a disturbing truth underneath.

The movie will see Wilde re-team with her Booksmart writer, Katie Silberman, with offers of around $20 million being reported.

Wilde is expected to meet with the bidding finalists at the end of the week, ahead of a decision to be made early next week.

6 years ago, before the kids were born, Ellen gave Olivia a gift of herself in a yellow bathing suit as a joke.

According to Olivia, the portrait used to hang above her and Jason’s bed, but “now it has another very special place: outside the children’s bedrooms,” she told Ellen. “So it’s the first thing that they see when they wake up.”

“Do they say, ‘Who is that lady?’” asked the comedienne.

“Yeah, they say, ‘Oh, that’s our real mother,’” jokes the 34-year-old. “And I just say, ‘Yes.’”
