]]>Napoleon knocked it out of the parks as soon as it hit the theaters, and grossed $78.8 million globally across its five-day opening frame, including $46.3 million from the international box office. It exceeded expectations during its opening weekend, and its box office numbers are looking well, even a month later.
Napoleon hit the theatres on November 23, and it took it about a month to reach the $200.7 million mark, including $141.1 million from the international box office and $59.6 million grossed domestically. By doing so, the film finally broke even given its $200 million budget, but on-demand rentals and Apple TV+ subscriptions will also be a significant part of its revenue stream.
Ridley Scott’s historical epic chronicles Napoleon’s rise to power and his complicated relationship with his wife Joséphine. In addition to Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby in the lead roles, the film also stars Tahar Rahim, Rupert Everett, Ben Miles, Ludivine Sagnier, and Matthew Needham.

]]>Sony Pictures’ official logline describes Napoleon as a spectacle-filled action epic that details the checkered rise and fall of the iconic French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, capturing his relentless journey to power through the prism of his addictive, volatile relationship with his one true love, Josephine.
Phoenix and Scott are no strangers to filming historic epics by each other’s side. Phoenix became a household name after playing Commodus in Scott’s historical drama Gladiator and earned an Oscar nod for the best supporting actor for this performance.
Scott has been fascinated by the French emperor for a long time, but it took years to get the film about him off the ground. This project was initially announced under the working title Kitbag back in 2020 and experienced several shifts before Apple Studios agreed to finance it.
Vanessa Kirby will join Phoenix as Josephine, while the supporting cast will include Tahar Rahim, Mark Bonnar, Rupert Everett, and Youssef Kerkour. Napoleon will be released on November 22 by Sony Pictures Releasing, before streaming on Apple TV+ at a later date.

]]>The second season of Pascal’s hit HBO series The Last of Us is currently in the works and he’ll be pretty busy in the meantime. He’s in final negotiations to join Scott’s next film in a mystery role, and this project sounds right down his alley.
Even before leading The Last of Us, Pascal starred in a wide range of action-packed projects, from Game of Thrones to The Mandalorian. He also played key roles in the films Kingsman: The Golden Circle, The Great Wall, and Wonder Woman 1984. He’ll next star alongside Ethan Hawke in Pedro Almodovar’s second English-speaking film Strange Way of Life.
Pascal will be in pretty good company on set of Gladiator 2 because its cast is bursting with talent. Paul Mescal, the Oscar- and Emmy-nominated star of Normal People and Aftersun, will lead the cast alongside Barry Keoghan, Joseph Quinn, Connie Nielsen, and Denzel Washington.

]]>Since Russell Crowe’s Maximus died at the end of the first film, Mescal isn’t expected to replace him, but play a brand-new character in the sequel. He will portray Lucius, the son of Connie Nielsen’s Lucilla and the nephew of Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus. He was still a child in the first film and was in awe of Maximus whenever he watched him fight in the arena.
Scott will return to the Colosseum to continue this story as a director, while David Scarpa penned the script. The cast is yet to be announced, but the project will include a few familiar faces, including costume designer Janty Yates and production designer Arthur Max.
Mescal rose to prominence with the Emmy-nominated role in Normal People and starred in several acclaimed projects since its release. He’s currently receiving major Oscar buzz for his role in the poignant drama Aftersun, which earned him nominations at the Critics’ Choice Awards and Independent Spirit Awards.

]]>HBO Max has chosen to cancel the sci-fi series produced by House of Gucci director, Ridley Scott.
“While we are not proceeding with a third season of Raised by Wolves, we are beyond grateful to the stellar cast and crew, our creators Aaron Guzikowski, Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, and the entire team at Scott Free Productions, for their beautiful artistry and unique ability to immerse fans into the world of Kepler-22b,” the network said in a statement.
Premiering in September 2020, the series marked Scott’s first television directing role in his five-decade career. Set in a future in which the Earth was destroyed in a great war, Raised by Wolves centers around two androids that are tasked with raising human children on the exoplanet Kepler-22b. Religious differences threaten to divide the human colony, with the androids soon learning just how difficult it can be to control people’s beliefs.
The series was renewed for a second season shortly after its debut, with both seasons being warmly received by critics. However, structural changes at WarnerMedia, which owns HBO Max, have resulted in the cancellation of several shows.
It is possible that another platform may pick up Raised by Wolves for a third season, with Abubaker Salim, who plays Father, encouraging fans of the series to be as vocal as they can to help make it happen.

]]>Having turned the Coen Brothers’ Fargo into a limited series, Noah Hawley is planning to do the same to the extraterrestrial franchise. The FX series will in no way be connected to Sigourney Weaver’s story that was the focus of the first three films.
But not everyone is excited about the adaptation.
“It’ll never be as good as the first one,” expressed Ridley Scott who directed the 1979 original.
Although James Cameron and David Fincher directed the next two Alien films, respectively, Scott returned to the director’s chair for Prometheus which came out in 2012.
Although Weaver had expressed interest in reuniting with the Gladiator filmmaker, she did not star in the prequel. Five years later, a follow-up to Prometheus was released, entitled Alien: Covenant.
The Alien limited series is scheduled to begin filming next spring.
