Killers of the Flower Moon is based on David Grann’s book of the same name, and it centers on a series of murders in the Osage Nation at the turn of the 20th century. This Native American community found immense wealth after oil was discovered on their tribal land – but this discovery also put them in grave danger, leading to a series of mysterious murders.

The official logline describes Killers of the Flower Moon as “an epic western crime saga, where real love crosses paths with unspeakable betrayal”, told through the improbable romance of Ernest Burkhart (DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Gladstone).

The ensemble cast of this star-studded film also includes Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, John Lithgow, Brendan Fraser, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, and Jillian Dion.

Killers of the Flower Moon was met with rave reviews following its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. It will head to the theaters on October 20, before being released on Apple TV+ at a later date.

Scorsese’s return to Cannes is a big deal since it’s been almost four decades since he presented one of his films at this festival. He won best director for After Hours in 1986 and later returned as the president of the jury in 1998, awarding Palme d’Or to Theo Angelopoulos’ Eternity and a Day.

It’s still unclear if Flower Moon will play in or out of competition, but we’ll know more once the lineup is officially revealed on April 13. Disney’s Indiana Jones And The Dial of Destiny and Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City are also among the hot titles expected to premiere in Cannes between May 16 and 27.

The Six Days Seven Nights star was declared dead on Thursday, August 11, a week after being involved in a devastating car crash that left her severely burned. Following the collision, Heche had been in critical condition and placed on a ventilator.

A representative for the actress confirmed her death at the age of 53.

“Today we lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend,” read the statement. “Anne will be deeply missed but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work, and her passionate advocacy. Her bravery for always standing in her truth, spreading her message of love and acceptance, will continue to have a lasting impact.“

It was the Emmy Award winner’s wish to be an organ donor. As such, she was kept on life support to allow medical personnel to assess the viability of her organs and locate recipients. 

Heche leaves behind two sons, 20-year-old Homer and 13-year-old Atlas. The elder of the two released a heartbreaking statement following her death. 

“My brother Atlas and I lost our Mom. After six days of almost unbelievable emotional swings, I am left with a deep, wordless sadness. Hopefully my mom is free from pain and beginning to explore what I like to imagine as her eternal freedom.“

Fellow stars also paid their condolences, including Robert De Niro, Carrie Ann Inaba, James Gunn, and Alicia Silverstone. 

“I’m very sad to hear of the tragic passing of Anne Heche. She was a wonderful actress and I enjoyed working with her tremendously in Wag the Dog. Sad! Sad! Sad!“ said De Niro. 

Silverstone wrote, “She was my favorite actress that I have ever worked with.”

One of the questions revolved around the iconic “Are you talkin’ to me?” line spoken by De Niro’s character Travis Bickle’s in the cult classic Taxi Driver. It was long-rumored that the line wasn’t even in the script and that De Niro ad-libbed it on the spot.

When asked whether the rumor about his improvisation was “true or false,” De Niro answered that it is “more or less true” while adding that the fans regularly approach him with this line.

De Niro also answered questions about his involvement in the Godfather film franchise and 1988’s comedy Big. He said it’s true he auditioned for the role of Sonny Corleone in the first Godfather movie before the part went to James Caan. De Niro later starred in Godfather Part II as a young Vito Corleone and ended up winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance.

Regarding the movie Big, De Niro admitted that he was briefly cast in it as a lead. He ended up leaving the project due to “an issue with the negotiations.” Tom Hanks ended up taking over.

This promising movie will focus on a Formula One racing prodigy who is forced to become a getaway driver to save the only family he has left. Gerard McMurray, who helmed one of Netflix’s very first feature films Burning Sands, is in charge of writing and directing the project.

John Boyega is currently attached to two more Netflix movies—the sci-fi comedy They Cloned Tyrone and action thriller, Rebel Ridge. Back in 2020, his production company UpperRoom Productions also signed a deal with this streaming giant to develop non-English language films.

Robert De Niro is also no stranger to working with Netflix. One of his most critically acclaimed films in recent memory, Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, premiered on this streaming service back in 2019 and went on to receive 10 Academy Award nominations.

In May, Variety reported that Cate Blanchett would be starring in the film and that James Gray would be directing. Armageddon Time is a coming-of-age story that looks at friendship and loyalty during the Ronald Reagan era. The film is based off of Gray’s childhood memories.

“I’m anxious to make something that is very much about people, about human emotions and interactions between people, and I want it to be filled with warmth and tenderness. In some sense, yes it’s about my childhood, but an illustration of familial love really on every level. I’m of the belief that most people do their best and that they try their best under difficult circumstances and in some sense that’s a beautiful thing and very moving to me,” Gray said when describing the film to Deadline.

This won’t be De Niro and Hathaway’s first time working together, they starred in the 2015 comedy The Intern. De Niro is working with Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s next movie, Killers of the Flower Moon and Hathaway currently stars in Warner Bros’ The Witches.

The SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris announced their decision to honor De Niro in an official statement and described him as one of the biggest talents of his generation.

“The characters he creates captivate our imaginations. From the smoldering inferno of young Vito Corleone to the raging bull Jake Lamotta and everybody’s grandpa Ben Whittaker, he continues to touch our hearts and open our minds to new and exciting worlds of understanding and emotion,” said Carteris.

De Niro rose to prominence during the ‘70s, when he started a decades-long collaboration with Martin Scorsese by starring in his movies Mean Streets and Taxi Driver. He also won his first Oscar for the role in The Godfather: Part II during this era.

He went on to star in some of the most critically acclaimed films of the ‘80s and ‘90s and made a switch to comedy with the role in the Meet the Parents franchise. De Niro’s most recent credits include Scorsese’s The Irishman and box office hit Joker.

After several teasers, the trailer finally gives us a comprehensive look at Robert De Niro as mob enforcer Frank Sheeran, Joe Pesci as the ruthless crime syndicate boss Russell Bufalino, and Al Pacino’s Jimmy Hoffa.

As the film follows Sheeran from his mid-20s to his 80s, Scorsese put into use de-aging visual effects technology. 

“They didn’t want it to get in our way. And Marty didn’t want that … They had all kinds of cameras taking pictures, a special camera photographing us,” De Niro said of the de-aging process to Jimmy Fallon during his appearance on The Tonight Show Wednesday night.

The Irishman was penned by screenwriter Steven Zaillia (Schindler’s List, Gangs of New York). It also stars Ray Romano, Bobby Cannavale, Anna Paquin, and Jesse Plemons.
