The official logline describes this series as a psychological thriller about a therapist Alan Strauss who is held prisoner by patient Sam Fortner who reveals himself to be a serial killer. With time running out, Alan fights desperately to stop Sam before Alan becomes complicit in Sam’s murders or worse—becomes a target himself.

Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg (The Americans) co-created the series for Hulu and they’re serving as executive producers. The Patient will feature a total of ten episodes and is set to premiere on August 30.

Steve Carell most recently starred in the Apple TV+ drama The Morning Show and returned to his comedic roots in the recently-canceled Netflix series Space Force. He also voiced Gru in Minions: The Rise of Gru and is set to appear in Imaginary Friends, directed by his The Office co-star John Krasinski.

Following his appearance in the Star Wars franchise, Gleeson made a shift to television with recent roles in Run and Frank of Ireland. He’s also attached to the mini-series The White House Plumbers, also starring Woody Harrelson, Lena Headey, and Justin Theroux.

The creators of The Morning Show also discussed everything from the mixed critical reaction to this series to Steve Carell’s potential return. The The Office star only signed a one-year contract, and they’re exploring the possibility of bringing him back, but nothing is certain just yet.

You’d literally have to have all of the same writers, the same producers, the same directors, and the same actors, and even with all of those components, it just wouldn’t be the same. So, no. But, I love the show. It was the most exciting time, and all of those people are my friends. We all love it. It was a special thing. It was a special thing before people thought it was a special thing. It was special to us, before other people started feeling that way. But, no,” Steve said during an interview with Collider.

Sam Rockwell is equally impressive as George W. Bush, and it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he received another Academy Award nomination, only a year after winning one. Vice also stars Amy Adams as Cheney’s wife Lynne and Steve Carell as defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

Adam McKay, who previously directed Bale in The Big Short, returns as director and screenwriter of this intriguing biopic. The film is headed to theaters on Christmas Day.

Described as a story about “heartbreaking and inspiring experience of survival, relapse, and recovery” Beautiful Boy follows a young man who struggles with drug addiction and his father who’s doing his best to help him cope. It’s based on a true story of Nic Sheff and his father David, who both wrote memoirs describing their experience.

The trailer made it pretty clear we can expect powerhouse performances from Chalamet and Carell, but that’s not the only reason to see the movie. It’s directed by Felix Van Groeningen, who already scored an Oscar nomination for The Broken Circle Breakdown. His screenwriting partner Luke Davies also has a great track record, thanks to his work on Lion in 2016. Beautiful Boy will premiere on October 12, in the peak of awards season. Brad Pitt’s company Plan B is expecting big things from it, and judging by the trailer – it will certainly deliver.
