The post “The Suicide Squad” Scores the Best Pandemic Opening for R-Rated Movie appeared first on EverydayKoala.
]]>With $26.5 million earned this past weekend, The Suicide Squad had the biggest R-rated opening since the start of the pandemic. It also earned $4.1 million from Thursday night previews, becoming the top-grossing R-rated pre-sale release since the pandemic began.
The Suicide Squad’s box office numbers may be pretty strong under the circumstances, but it’s still the lowest-performing project in the DC Extended Universe. Several factors come into play, including the rise of the Delta variant, HBO Max’s simultaneous release, the mixed reception of the original movie, and confusion about the timeline of its sequel.
The critics still praised James Gunn’s version as an improvement over its predecessor and applauded its direction, humor, and style. Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, and Jai Courtney were amongst the stars returning for the sequel, alongside newcomers Idris Elba, John Cena, and Sylvester Stallone.

]]>According to director James Gunn, some of the cast members released the trailer online earlier than expected. The trailer was released on YouTube with the title “The Suicide Squad – Early Access Trailer Do Not Share.”
In the film, the squad recruited by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), has a mission to destroy a Nazi-era prison and laboratory. During their mission, they face some obstacles including a telepathic, skyscraper-tall starfish named Starro.
Gunn has previously stated that his take on the DC supervillains will be different, but it won’t destroy the foundation David Ayer made in 2016’s Suicide Squad. Many stars from the first film will be returning including Margot Robbie, Davis, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman. Joining the film are John Cena, Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian, Alice Braga, Daniela Melchior, Nathan Fillion, Mayling Ng, Michael Rooker, Pete Davidson, Peter Capaldi, Sean Gunn, John Ostrander, Taika Watiti, and Flula Borg.
The Suicide Squad will be released on August 6 in theaters and on HBO Max for 30 days. Check out the trailer below.

]]>The post Sylvester Stallone Joins the Cast of “The Suicide Squad” appeared first on EverydayKoala.
]]>The 74-years-old actor announced the news itself on his Instagram account in a video he took down shortly after. However, in a second post, he reaffirmed his involvement in the movie saying how great it was to work with Gunn on the “astounding” movie. Later Gunn himself posted confirmation of the news on his own Instagram account saying it was amazing to work again with Stallone (Sly had a small part on Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2).
Stallone’s career is a long and prolific one, spanning decades and 74 movies. But he did not take part in many superheroes or comic books based movies. Apart from said small part on Guardians, his most notable part in the Genre was the lead role in 1995’s Judge Dredd, which did not do well with critics and is considered a flop in the box-offices.
The Suicide Squad cast also includes Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Peter Capaldi, and John Cena.

]]>Gunn told his fans on Twitter that he’s still planning to release The Suicide Squad on August 6th, 2021 and that the editing process has been pretty smooth so far.
“Right now there’s no reason for #TheSuicideSquad release date to move. We are on or ahead of schedule. We were extremely fortunate to wrap shooting & set up editing from our homes (due to a post-production team & studio with foresight) before quarantine,” wrote the director.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 still doesn’t have an official release date, but Gunn said that his plans for this movie are “exactly the same as they were before coronavirus”. Disney recently shifted release dates for several Marvel Phase 4 projects, but they still haven’t assigned a date to the next Guardians film.
He later added that while plans for both films hadn’t changed so far, it’s not completely his call.
