This decision paid off big time, and this film ended up grossing $81.5 million domestically plus $97 million internationally, for a worldwide total of $178.5 million.
Dune: Part Two owes a significant part of its earnings to sold-out IMAX showings, which accounted for 23% of domestic sales or $18.5 million. Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX, addressed the film’s huge success in this format and said that this number wasn’t higher only because they ran out of seats.
Dune: Part Two is based on Frank Herbert’s seminal epic sci-fi novel of the same name, and Denis Villeneuve is plotting the adaptation of its sequel Dune Messiah. He’ll hit the SNL stage again on November 11, when he’s set to serve as the host alongside the musical guest Boygenius, the indie supergroup formed by Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus.
Saturday Night Live is now only three episodes into Season 49, and the list of previous hosts included comedians Pete Davidson and Nate Bargatze and Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny, who pulled the double duty during his hosting debut. Ice Spice and Foo Fighters also appeared as musical guests.
Chalamet will soon play the titular character in Wonka and he’ll return as Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Two next year, but it’s unclear if he’ll get to promote any of these projects on SNL. The SAG-AFTRA strike is not over yet, and he’s actually the first star with a major studio movie to host SNL since the start of the season.

Mangold’s film is based on Elijah Wald’s book Dylan Goes Electric, and he can’t wait to dive into this story when the production kicks off this August.
“It’s such an amazing time in American culture and the story of Bob — a young 19-year-old Bob Dylan coming to New York with like two dollars in his pocket and becoming a worldwide sensation within three years,” said Mangold.
Mangold has been developing his Bob Dylan biopic under the working title A Complete Unknown since 2020, but this project faced several delays over the years. Chalamet revealed that he never stopped preparing for the role, and said it’s been a wonderful experience getting to dive into Dylan’s world.
