Wonka is one of the most anticipated movies coming our way this winter and the first official trailer gave us a taste of things to come. Timothée Chalamet transforms into everyone’s favorite chocolate maker Willy Wonka in the first promo clip for this musical fantasy film.

According to Warner Bros. Pictures’ official synopsis, Wonka tells the wondrous story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician, and chocolate maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today. It draws inspiration from the extraordinary world created by Roald Dahl and essentially serves as a sequel to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

The film will be led by Timothée Chalamet, the Oscar-nominated star of Call Me By Your Name and Dune, who was drawn to this project because it has a much lighter tone than most of his previous films.

“To work on something that will have an uncynical young audience, that was just a big joy. That’s why I was drawn to it. In a time and climate […] when there’s so much bad news all the time, this is hopefully going to be a piece of chocolate,” he told Vogue.

Wonka will premiere on December 15, and its cast also includes Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Tom Davis, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Grant.
