After several major delays, Venom: Let There Be Carnage finally hit theaters last week, and it turns out it was worth the wait. The superhero flick scored the best domestic opening at the box office with $90.1 million, breaking the record previously held by Black Widow.

Unlike many movies these days, the Venom sequel wasn’t simultaneously released in cinemas and on streaming services, and giving it an exclusive theatrical release paid off big time for Sony Pictures.

“We had confidence in the theatrical experience, confidence in our big valuable IP, and took full advantage and had the patience to weather all of this. That strategy is paying off, which we’re happy about. It’s a nice validation of the theatrical strategy,” said the president of Sony Motion Pictures Group, Josh Greenstein, in an official statement.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage was originally set for release on October 2nd, 2020 but it arrived in theaters about a year later after being hit with several major delays. Following its opening, it earned a worldwide total of $103.9 million, including $90.1 million in North America and $13.8 million in other territories. Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams returned to their respective roles from the original movie, while Woody Harrelson joined them as Cletus Kasady aka Carnage.

The highly-anticipated superhero flick Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which serves as a sequel to 2018’s box office hit Venom, is scheduled to hit theaters on September 24th. Until then, however, you can enjoy the brand new action-packed trailer that Sony just shared with the fans.

The trailer hints at the origins of Carnage, an alien symbiote who possesses serial murder Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson) and serves as the movie’s main villain.

In one scene shown in the clip, journalist Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) visits Kasady in prison and gets bitten by him during a brief chat. After this event, Kasady becomes the host of Carnage and escapes prison using his powers. This leads to the conclusion that Brock’s alien symbiote-infested blood spawned Carnage, although we will have to wait for the full movie to see whether this is true.

Elsewhere in the trailer, we get an insight into Brock and Venom’s attempts to learn to live together. Also, we witness mayhem and destruction that ensures when Kasady and Carnage find their way to the outside world.

Check out the trailer below.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is directed by Andy Serkis and based on a story by Tom Hardy and screenwriter Kelly Marcel. The movie is set to introduce several new characters from the comics, including Kasady’s love interest Frances Barrison, who will be portrayed by Naomie Harris. The character of Barrison is better known for her alter-ego Shriek. The cast also features Michelle Williams, Reid Scott, and Stephen Graham.

A sequel to Sony’s hit superhero Venom, titled Let There Be Carnage, was set to hit theaters last year before being met with several delays. However, the long wait looks to be coming to an end as the studio finally released the first trailer for the movie.

At the beginning of the trailer, we find Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and alien symbiote Venom trying to navigate their complicated relationship. After saving the planet in the first movie, they now have difficulties sharing one body and getting accustomed to each other’s needs. This looks to be particularly hard for Brock, who is attempting to get back to his old life and resurrect his career as a journalist.

We also get a better look at villain Cletus Kasady, who is portrayed by Woody Harrelson. The character was previously introduced in the first movie during the post-credit scenes. The trailer shows Kasady, a serial killer who is awaiting execution, escaping prison when he becomes a host of another alien symbiote called Carnage. Watch the trailer in full below.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is currently set for release on September 24th in theaters. The movie was directed by Andy Serkis, who stepped in for Ruben Fleischer, and stars Hardy and Harrelson alongside Michelle Williams, Reid Scott, Stephen Graham, and Naomie Harris.

Sony also revealed the first movie poster alongside the trailer.

Woody Harrelson will return as Carnage in the Venom sequel.

Last year, Tom Hardy made his debut as the popular anti-hero, Venom. Venom was originally a character in the Spider-Man comics and made his on-screen debut in Spider-Man 3 with Toby McGuire. Hardy’s Venom was darker, more vocal, and much more powerful.

In a mid-credits scene at the end of Venom, Woody Harrelson made an appearance as the serial killer, Carnage. Now, it has been confirmed that the character will be returning for the Venom sequel and Harrelson will be reprising the role.

Speaking will collider, cinematographer Robert Richardson confirmed the news. He said: “I think it’s unexplored yet, and it’s going to explode, and this film, I think, will help it explode because you have a remarkable central character with Venom.

“But now you’ve got Woody Harrelson, who’s going to obviously make his own little entrance here, and we’ll see what else comes in with the Sony Marvel collaboration.”

Venom 2 has no confirmed released date but it is predicted for October 2, 2020.

Venom producer has confirmed that Tom Hardy is on board the Venom sequel.

2018’s Venom was definitely a surprise hit, grossing more than films like Wonder Woman and Thor: Ragnarok, bringing in more than $800 million worldwide.

“I can say that Tom Hardy will be back, magnificently playing that character as no one else can,” producer Amy Pascal told Fandango. “When you think of Venom, you’ll never be able to think of anyone but Tom Hardy sitting in that bathtub of lobsters. And once you saw Tom Hardy do this character, that’s all you needed to know.”

There are no concrete details of the sequel story line but it’s safe to assume that convicted serial killer Cletus Kasady played by Woody Harrelson, who made an appearance in the end scenes of the original, will make a comeback.
