]]>Anderson’s latest collaboration with Roman Coppola has been in development for quite some time, and the duo finished the script before the writers’ strike. They’re keeping the plot details under wraps for now, but it’s safe to expect this film will be visually striking and feature a huge ensemble, just like all of Anderson’s previous projects.
The Phoenician Scheme will reunite Anderson with his frequent collaborators Bill Murray and Benicio Del Toro, who both appeared in his film The French Dispatch. Michael Cera is the newcomer to Anderson’s world, but he’ll fit right in, given his tendency for playing quirky characters.
Anderson is fresh off another busy year, which saw him release several acclaimed projects. In addition to his latest feature Asteroid City, led by Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, and Tom Hanks, the seven-time Oscar nominee also released a quarter of short films based on the works of Roald Dahl, including The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.

]]>Anderson and Cocker originally teamed up for the cover of Cristophe’s “Aline.” Cocker’s version of the 1965 hit song is prominently used in The French Dispatch and will be part of the movie’s original soundtrack.
The fruitful collab on “Aline” prompted the duo to record a full album inspired by The French Dispatch. The LP will consist of covers of popular songs from artists like Françoise Hardy, Serge Gainsbourg, and Brigitte Bardot, and will arrive on October 22nd.
This isn’t the first time that Wes Anderson and Jarvis Cocker have worked together. Cocker previously contributed to the soundtracks of several movies directed by Anderson while also voicing character Petey in his 2009’s animated comedy Fantastic Mr.Fox.
The French Dispatch finished filming in 2019 and was set to arrive in the summer of 2020. Since then, the movie, starring an ensemble cast featuring Timothée Chalamet, Benicio del Toro, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, and Bill Murray, among others, suffered several delays before premiering this year at the Cannes Film Festival. It is currently scheduled for theatrical release on October 22nd in the United States.

Johansson has been making headlines for suing Disney on breach of contract after the company released Black Widow simultaneously in theaters and on Disney Plus for $30. She says the decision causes a loss in ticket sales, resulting in a loss of $50 million in box office bonuses. Disney claimed her contract ensured a wide release, not an exclusive theatrical release.
Johansson’s credits include Marriage Story, Jojo Rabbit, Lost in Translation, The Prestige, Match Point, Under the Skin, and Ghost World. Johansson won a Tony for A View From the Bridge.
The French Dispatch, Anderson’s recent film, premiered with strong reviews at the Cannes Film Festival this year. It’s expected to open this fall and be a contender at award’s season.
