The second season of Abbott Elementary featured several amazing guest stars, but the best is yet to come! Oscar-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson will make a guest appearance on the Emmy-winning sitcom, in the role of Janine Teagues’s mother.

Henson’s involvement was confirmed at Paley Fest LA, during a panel featuring the show’s stars Sheryl Lee Ralph, Lisa Ann Walter, Tyler James Wiliams, and William Stanford Davis. The show’s star and executive producer Quinta Brunson wasn’t able to attend because she was hosting Saturday Night Live, but she tuned in via pre-taped message.

Following the big announcement at Paley Fest LA, the photo of Brunson and Henson was shared on Abbott Elementary’s social media channels. It was captured with the words, “about that episode titled ‘mom’ you saw earlier…” seemingly confirming the identity of Henson’s character.

The Empire star is expected to appear on the show on April 12, which will see Janine planning a Memorial Day weekend solo trip, but her plans end up being derailed when her mother Vanetta shows up unannounced, asking for help.

She’ll appear on Abbott Elementary just a few episodes after The Bear’s Ayo Edibiri made a guest appearance as Ayesha, Janine’s younger sister.
