It’s been a while since we’ve seen Taron Egerton lead a major action movie, but he’s ready to go back to his roots. The Golden Globe-winning actor landed a lead role in the upcoming Netflix action thriller Carry On.
Egerton is set to play Ethan Kopek, a young TSA agent who gets blackmailed by a mysterious traveler to let a dangerous package slip through security and onto a Christmas Day flight.
TJ Fixman wrote the first draft of the script, while Michael Green polished the latest version. Jaume Collet-Serra will be in charge of directing the project, marking his return to the action thriller genre following a recent shift to big blockbusters with Jungle Cruise and Black Adam, both staring Dwayne Johnson.
As for Egerton, he rose to prominence with the role of Eggsy in Kingsman: The Secret Service and later reprised this role in Kingsman: The Golden Circle. He went on to star in Robin Hood, but it’s been a while since we’ve seen him tackle the action genre.
He won a Golden Globe for playing Elton John in Rocketman and gave television a shot earlier this year with Apple TV+ crime drama Black Bird. He’s currently attached to the biographical film Tetris, which chronicles the development of the popular game.
