The collaboration between Taylor Swift and Shawn Mendes everyone’s been patiently waiting for is finally here – but it’s probably not what you’ve expected. Instead of releasing a brand-new song, they worked on a heartfelt remix of Swift’s song “Lover”.
The titular single from her new album was originally produced by Swift and Jack Antonoff, and it peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The remix featuring Mendes comes with a re-worked second verse, written by the Canadian singer.
Swift couldn’t wait to share this new version with her fans, and she explained how Mendes’ participation made her hit single even better.
“He has taken ‘Lover’ and he has re-written parts of it, which I think is so important because I love him as a writer. And I also think that everybody would write a different love letter to their lover and I think his take on it is so beautiful,” said ten-time Grammy winner on Instagram.
Shawn Mendes previously described “Lover” as one of his favorite songs from Swift’s new album and thanked her for letting him join her on such a beautiful song.
