Apple TV+ gave us one of the best murder mystery comedies in recent memory with The Afterparty, but they’re not proceeding with its third season. The acclaimed series is looking for a new home after a streaming giant made a shocking decision to cancel it after two seasons.

Created by Chris Miller, who executive produced this series alongside his frequent collaborator Phil Lord, this anthology series saw Detective Danner (Tiffany Haddish) try to solve a different murder mystery each season by interrogating all the suspects. The Afterparty became an instant sensation thanks to its interesting narrative structure, with each episode exploring different genres and movie tropes to match the storyteller’s perspective.

In addition to Haddish, both seasons starred Sam Richardson and Zoë Chao, along with an A-list ensemble cast. John Cho, Paul Walter Hauser, Ken Jeong, Anna Konkle, Poppy Liu, Elizabeth Perkins, Jack Whitehall, Zach Woods, and Vivian Wu hopped on board for the show’s second season.

Sony Pictures Television plans to shop the series to other platforms following its Apple TV+ cancelation, and Miller revealed he already has an idea of where to take the story next.

“We would love to do a Season 3, not only because we have lots of great ideas, but also because that would mean that the AMPTP would have given a fair deal to the writers and we could all be back to work,” Miller previously told Variety.
