We’ve seen many Disney animated classics get amazing live-action remakes in recent years, and The Aristocats is the next one in line. The Oscar winner Questlove is on board to direct a live-action/hybrid reimagining of the beloved ’70s Disney classic.

The Aristocats originally premiered in 1970, and it centered on a family of Parisian felines who must find their way back home after a jealous butler kidnaps them and leaves them in the country after learning they’re set to inherit a fortune from their owner.

Disney try to bring The Aristocats back on several occasions, but all previous attempts failed. The sequel was planned during the 2000s, but it never saw the light of day, and a TV show The Aristocats: The Animated Series suffered a similar fate.

Questlove will finally get the chance to make things right and bring The Aristocats back over 50 years after the original film came out. In addition to directing, he’ll be also serving as executive producer and music supervisor, while Will Gluck and Keith Bunin wrote the script.

Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson is best known as the musician, producer, and founder of the hip-hop band The Roots, but he’s been exploring Hollywood in recent years. He made his directorial debut with Summer of Soul in 2021, which won him an Academy Award for best documentary.
