The Best Clown Yet? Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker is Said to be Oscar Worthy

Joaquin Phoenix in "Joker"

A Joker standalone movie is long overdue and we will get to see one this October. According to people who already got to see it, we are in for a treat. The Joker is portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix and the buzz around his performance claims it is Oscar-worthy.

Awards Ace has talked with sources who have already seen the movie who describe Phoenix’s Joker as “dark, disturbing and unforgettable.” The sources had really nothing bad to say about Phoenix.

It is not the only buzz the film gets. Alberto Barbera,  the artistic chief of the Venice Film Festival, where the film will debut, has previously suggested he firmly believes Joker will in the running for some major awards.

The official synopsis of the movie reads: “Drama. Joker centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. The exploration of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.”

The Joker has been portrayed by some amazing actors in the past. In the 1990s, Jack Nicolson has stepped into the shoes of the clown prince of crime in Tim Burton’s adaptation of the comics and the performance of the late Heath Ledger in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight is considered a masterpiece.

Will Phoenix surpass them? We’ll have to wait till October 4th to find out. Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron, Brett Cullen, Bryan Callen, and Robert De Niro will star in the movie alongside him.
