Netflix executives never had any trouble sending fans of their hit dramas into a frenzy, and they’ve managed to do it once again. They just dropped the first picture of Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip in the new season of The Crown.

The first glimpse at the new Duke of Edinburgh shows him gazing into the distance while standing inside Buckingham Palace. Menzies’ hair’s slicked back to resemble Philip’s and he’s sporting a tax and full royal regalia in the picture. This role previously belonged to Doctor Who star Matt Smith, who received an Emmy nomination for his performance.

Paul Bettany was in talks to play Prince Philip, but he dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. First look at Tobias Menzies in costume proves that didn’t stop Netflix from finding the perfect Duke of Edinburgh. This actor is no stranger to starring in hit TV shows since he previously appeared on Game of Thrones. His career-defining project was critically acclaimed drama Outlander, which brought him a Golden Globe nomination.

The new cast of The Crown also includes Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Marion Bailey as the Queen Mother and Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles. We can’t wait to see what they bring to the table when the new season premieres next year.
