Several broadcast networks announced cancelations of several shows in the past few days, but the CW took things to a whole new level. They did a major purge, canceling seven shows in a single day, including Charmed and Legacies.

The CW was known for giving their shows early renewal year in, year out, but something shifted recently. The network executives seem to be on a cancelation spree right now, and the long list of shows they decided to ax includes Dynasty, Roswell, New Mexico, and In the Dark. Naomi and 4400 have also been canceled after a single season.

The cancelation of Legacies is especially devastating for the CW viewers because it marks the end of The Vampire Diaries franchise, one of the network’s biggest hits. The CW can still rely on their smash hit Riverdale and Arrowverse shows The Flash and Superman & Lois to attract the viewers.

The cancelation of several beloved shows in a single day was a huge shocker for fans, but it makes sense in the grand scheme of things. According to Deadline, this decision comes in the face of the CW’s potential sale and ownership change, and this marks the first year that the network canceled more shows than it renewed.
