“The Fanatic” is John Travolta’s Worst Opening Movie Ever

John Travolta and Devon Sawa in "The Fanatic"

John Travolta’s career knew many highs – and many lows, and it seems that the last few years definitely fall into the second group. 2018’s Gotti  didn’t sit well with critics and also bombed at the box offices with a gross of just 4.3 million dollars. Now the actor hits a new low with The Fanatic.

The new movie, directed by Limp Bizkit’s frontman Fred Durst, has made only 3,153 dollars on Friday and will likely not reach the 15,000 dollars’ mark on the extended Labor Day weekend. It was released on 52 screens. The last movie who held the honor of being Travolta’s worst opening was 2016’s In a Valley of Violence who managed 29,343 dollars on 33 screens.

The Fanatic sees Travolta as an obsessive fan called Moose who stalks an action movie star. The movie was met with a very cold shoulder by the critics.

Recently, Travolta had praised Durst saying he blew his mind with his writing and directing. “He knew this guy Moose that’s actually loosely based on a real guy and he wrote it with me in mind. He just knew I could portray this guy,” said the actor.
