The Fate of Jeffrey Tambor’s “Transparent” Character has been Revealed

The creator of Transparent is letting the spoilers all out in regards to one of the show’s key characters.

Jeffery Tambor, who won an Emmy Award for his portrayal of trans woman Maura, was fired from the series in February 2018 following two allegations of sexual harassment against him.

Show creator, Jill Soloway, admitted that the production team was unsure how to continue without Tambor and considered just stopping, but then decided to finish the series with a musical finale.

And that finale will feature Maria’s death.

The final episode will see Tambor’s character killed off and depict how the Pfefferman family deals with the loss — all pulled together with song in what has been deemed “The Transparent Musicale Finale”.

“We were all in mourning in many ways, and we all had to process together,” Soloway said. “It was important [for the show] to go through all those stages. The show has always been a reflection of who we were and we were mourning our own narrative.”

Soloway has described the finale as a tribute to all musicals — referring to it as a “Jewish Christ Superstar or anxious Godspell or Ordinary People on Ice” before finally declaring it a “genderqueer Jewish fantasia.”

A premiere date for the series finale has not yet been announced.
