A few months ago, the Critics’ Choice Association announced its decision to launch a special award ceremony dedicated to genre movies and TV shows. The inaugural ceremony took place this weekend, and the list of winners was topped by The Boys, Palm Springs, and Soul.

Hulu’s rom-com Palm Springs was named as the best science fiction/fantasy movie, beating the likes of Love and Monsters and The Vast of Night. Its lead stars Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti also picked up the acting awards in their respective categories.

Pixar’s latest film Soul was named the best-animated movie, while its stars Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey were awarded for their voiceover performances. The list of major winners in movie categories also included Birds of Prey, Da 5 Bloods, and The Invisible Man with two awards each.

When it comes to the TV categories, Amazon’s superhero satire The Boys was the absolute winner, with a total of four awards. In addition to scooping the trophy for best superhero series, its stars Antony Starr and Aya Cash picked up acting awards, while Starr was also named as the best TV villain.

The inaugural Critics’ Choice Super Awards took place on January 10th, and the virtual ceremony was broadcasted on The CW.
