The official trailer for David Fincher’s Mank has been released and it gives insight into Oscar-winning Citizen Kane screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz and the development of the Orson Welles classic.

Gary Oldman stars as the social critic and alcoholic screenwriter Mankiewicz, who revaluates 1930s Hollywood as he races to finish the Citizen Kane script.

In the trailer, Mankiewicz, who goes by Mank, is called “a court jester” and cautioned he’s “hunting dangerous game” in taking on William Randolph Hearst (Charles Dance), who Charles Foster Kane is partly based on. Welles (Tom Burke) asks if Mank is “ready and willing to hunt the great white whale,” and Mank responds, “Just call me Ahab.”

Also in the black and white drama are Arliss Howard, Lily Collins, Amanda Seyfried, Tuppence Middleton, Tom Pelphrey, Sam Troughton, Ferdinand Kingsley, and Toby Leonard Moore.

Citizen Kane was released in 1941 and the script for Mank was written by David Fincher’s late father Jack Fincher.

Mank will be released by Netflix in select domestic theaters in November before it is added to the streaming service globally on December 4.
