The Last of Us made quite a splash since premiering on HBO this winter, and it’s finally getting credit where credit is due. The hit post-apocalyptic drama won big at this year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards, taking home a total of three awards, including the best show.

The Last of Us defeated the likes of Stranger Things, The White Lotus, Wednesday, Wolf Pack, Yellowjackets, and Yellowstone to be crowned as the best show of the year. It was also a big night for its leading man Pedro Pascal, who won awards for best hero and best duo alongside his co-star Bella Ramsey.

There were no repeat winners in the movie field, but Scream VI was arguably the biggest winner of the night. It defeated some of the biggest 2022 blockbusters, including Avatar: The Way of Water, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Top Gun: Maverick to be named the best movie of the year.

This year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards were supposed to take place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, but eventually shifted to a virtual ceremony on May 7. The in-person show was canceled shortly after the host Drew Barrymore pulled out in solidarity with the WGA strike.
