“The Lord of the Rings” Series Makes its First Casting

Middle Earth has its first resident.

Markella Kavenagh has become the first casting for Amazon’s new Lord of the Rings series.

The series is set before the movies made by Peter Jackson, in the Second Age of J.R.R. Tolkien’s world. According to lore, the Second Age was the time in which the Rings of Power, including Sauron’s One Ring, came into existence.

The Australian actress is fairly unknown but has starred in Romper Stomper, The Cry, and Picnic at Hanging Rock.

According to Variety, Kavenagh will play a character named Tyra.

JD Payne and Patrick McKay are developing the series which will be executive produced by J.A. Bayona who will also direct multiple episodes. Writer on Game of Thrones, Bryan Cogman, has been brought on as a consultant for the show which does not yet have a date.
