“The Lovebirds” Skips Cinemas and Goes Straight to Netflix

Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae in "The Lovebirds"

Deadline reports that The Lovebirds was set for an April 3 release date, but like many other films, it was removed from the release schedule amidst theaters being closed due to the coronavirus.

The Lovebirds stars Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae as a couple who’s entangled in a murder mystery, which becomes a defining moment in their relationship.

The film was supposed to premiere worldwide at SXSW on March 6, but the movies’ cast and director made a last-minute decision not to attend the festival for safety reasons.

The Lovebirds joins Sonic the Hedgehog, The Invisible Man, Onward, I Still Believe, Bloodshot, The Hunt, Emma, Birds of Prey, and The Way Back, which are all headed straight for a home release.

Netflix has not set a release date yet, but you can watch the trailer below.
