“The Outsider” Canceled After One Season at HBO

Ben Mendelsohn and Cynthia Erivo in "The Outsider"

HBO will not be bringing The Outsider back for a second season.

Multiple outlets confirm that the premium cabler has passed on another season of the Stephen King horror crime drama.

Per Deadline, the studio behind the show will be shopping The Outsider Season 2 to other outlets after HBO passed, so technically, the season, which is already underway, could find a home elsewhere. If the show continues, it will center around Cynthia Erivo’s character Holly, as it “expands King’s universe, exploring the human, naturalistic and inexplicable with a sustained pervasive dread you can’t put your finger on.”

“We enjoyed our collaboration with Richard, Jason, Andrew, and the MRC team, and we wish them well in continuing the world created by the brilliant Stephen King,” said an HBO spokesperson in a statement to Deadline.

The first season of The Outsider followed Ben Mendelsohn’s detective who teams up with Erivo’s Holly, a private eye with the special gift of being able to track down a supernatural serial killer.
