“The Painter and The Thief” Documentry is Getting a Narrative Remake

A remake of the Norwegian documentary film is getting made.

The remake of the Benjamin Rees documentary The Painter and The Thief  lands at Neon after it won a bidding war for the project. Co-developing the project is StudioCanal and Blueprint Pictures. 

The Painter and The Thief centers on Czech artist Barbora Kysilkova who is desperate for answers about the theft of her two paintings and her relationship with Karl Bertil-Nordland, the man who stole it.

The docu pic won the Creative Storytelling at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. It also won the Best Documentary Feature award at the BFI London Film Festival, and received two Critics’ Choice Awards nominations.
