Many beloved movies and TV shows have been turned into successful stage musicals, and it seems The Queen’s Gambit is the next one in line. Level Forward is currently plotting a stage adaptation of the Walter Tevis novel this hit Netflix series was based on.

Level Forward CEO Adrienne Becker and producer Julia Dunetz recently confirmed they acquired the rights for the stage version of The Queen’s Gambit and said it’s a privilege to tell this story through the beloved and enduring craft of musical theater.

“Told through a brave and fresh point of view, audiences are already sharing in the friendship and fortitude of the story’s inspiring women who energize and sustain Beth Harmon’s journey and ultimate triumph,” said Becker and Dunetz in a joint statement.

The Queen’s Gambit centers on an orphaned chess prodigy with a substance abuse problem as she rises through the ranks of the male-dominated chess world. The mini-series premiered to rave reviews and recently won Golden Globe awards for the best-limited series and best actress in limited series for its leading lady Anya Taylor-Joy.
