Fans of the popular fantasy series The Spiderwick Chronicles were looking forward to its Disney+ adaptation until the streamer decided to pull the plug. Luckily, this highly-anticipated TV adaptation found a new home, after Roku agreed to pick up the exclusive rights.

The Spiderwick Chronicles is based on the fantasy novels by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, which center on three siblings who discover a magical world of fairies after moving into the Spiderwick Estate. This book series previously produced Nickelodeon’s film adaptation from 2008.

Disney+ was developing a new adaptation of this series, but they decided to ax it as a part of their ongoing cost-cutting efforts. Paramount TV Studios promptly started looking for a new home for The Spiderwick Chronicles and found a perfect partner in crime in Roku.

Brian Tannenbaum, head of originals at Roku Media, confirmed this series will officially become a part of their programming and said they’re excited to share it with the world.

“It is an honor to bring The Spiderwick Chronicles, a spectacular adventure-filled story led by the incredible Christian Slater and Joy Bryant. We cannot wait to introduce this exquisitely crafted series, imagined by a world-class creative team, to millions of streamers,” said Tannenbaum in a statement.

The Spiderwick Chronicles will premiere on Roku in early 2024 and it will star Joy Bryant as Helen Grace, Noah Cottrell as Simon Grace, Lyon Daniels as Jared Grace, Mychala Lee as Mallory Grace, Jack Dylan Grazer as the voice of Thimbletack, and Christian Slater as Mulgarath.
