Christopher Nolan is set to deliver another blockbuster based on the trailer for his next film.

Those who went to see Avatar: The Way of Water during its opening weekend were also privy to the first trailer of Oppenheimer which premieres in July 2023.

Unlike many of Nolan’s other films which are futuristic, Oppenheimer focuses on the past as it tells the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer who was credited with inventing the atomic bomb. The theoretical physicist led the Manhattan Project during World War II which culminated in the Trinity Test in July of 1945 when a nuclear bomb was first tested in New Mexico.

In the film, Oppenheimer is played by Cillian Murphy who is a regular in Nolan’s films. The trailer shows the titular character as a man grappling with the responsibility (and consequences) of his creation.

“They won’t fear it, until they understand it. And they won’t understand it, until they’ve used it,” Murphy says in a voiceover. “I don’t know if we can be trusted with such a weapon, but we have no choice.”

In addition to the Peaky Blinders star, Oppenheimer boasts a stellar cast that includes Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Gary Oldman, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Benny Safdie, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, Josh Peck, Jason Clarke, David Dastmalchian, Alex Wolff, James D’Arcy, and many more.

Oppenheimer hits cinemas on July 21, 2023.
