After over a decade of anticipation, Avatar: The Way of Water finally made a splash in theatres last week. The Weeknd was as excited about its release as the rest of us, and he celebrated the big moment by dropping a music video for the theme song “Nothing is Lost (You Give Me Strength)”.

According to a press release, this song seeks to “speak to the epic scope, breathtaking action, and thrilling drama of the film itself”. It’s featured in the film’s end credits and we previously got to hear the snippet in the latest trailer for The Way of Water.

According to the film’s producer, Jon Landau, the song started taking shape after he met The Weeknd on tour last summer. Swedish House Mafia came up with the concept for the song, working closely with the composer Simon Franglen before the Canadian singer came on board to record it.

“Together, they came up with a song that is true to who The Weeknd is but is organic to our film… That’s what was important to us. We didn’t want just something to come on at the end of the movie that felt outside of it, but he embraced that collaboration,” Landau told Complex.

“Nothing is Lost (You Give Me Strength)” is eligible for the best original song award at the Oscars, and we’ll know if it made the cut when the shortlist is announced on December 21.
