The Weeknd’s After Hours is one of the albums that defined 2020 and the rest of the singer’s career going forward. He opened about its impact in a recent interview and revealed his plans for its follow-up.

The R&B superstar described After Hours, which produced the hit singles “Heartless” and “Blinding Lights”, as “the story of [his] 20s” in a recent interview with TMRW, and explained why it’s the culmination of his entire career so far.

“I feel like I spent the last 10 years creating a sound and most of my career, I’ve either been running away from it or duplicating it. After Hours was the perfect piece of art for me to show my tenure in the industry,” he said.

After putting his After Hours tour on hold, The Weeknd used the time off the road to work on new material for his next studio album. He revealed that he’s been “more inspired and creative during the pandemic” than he would’ve been on the road, and said this album will be inspired by the tumultuous events of 2020.
