The Hollywood Critics Association TV Awards are a relatively new ceremony, but they have a sharp eye for the ever-changing television landscape. The sophomore ceremony took place this weekend, with the top awards going to some of the year’s most acclaimed shows, starting with The White Lotus and Severance.
The White Lotus picked up a trophy for best broadcast network or cable limited or anthology series. Its stars Murray Bartlett and Jennifer Coolidge also received acting awards in their respective categories, while Mike White picked up two trophies for writing and directing the show.
As for Severance, the Apple TV+ sci-fi physiological thriller dominated streaming categories. It won the award for the best streaming drama series, acting awards for its stars John Turturro and Britt Lower, directing trophy for Ben Stiller, and a writing award for Dan Erickson.
As for the rest of the winners, Abbott Elementary, Better Call Saul, and Dopesick also did pretty great and picked up four awards each. This Is Us topped the list of nominations with 12 nods, but eventually only won two awards, including the best broadcast network drama series.
The HCA Awards were presented by the Hollywood Critics Association on August 13 and 14 in Los Angeles, with the first night focusing on broadcast and cable awards and the second one honoring streaming platforms.
