Many beloved shows on The CW ended up on the chopping block in recent months and The Winchesters just experienced the same fate. The Supernatural prequel has been canceled after a single season, but its creators are planning to shop it elsewhere.

The CW didn’t cite a concrete reason for the show’s cancelation, but it’s likely they decided to give it a boot as they shift their focus to unscripted and lower-cost scripted programming. Deadline reports that The Winchesters studio Warner Bros. Television has been planning to look for a new home even before the show was officially canceled.

Executive producer and narrator Jensen Ackles joined in their efforts by launching the #SaveTheWinchesters campaign on social media, and he’s certain this won’t be the end of this dark fantasy series.

“I do have this crazy optimism for this show and I think it largely resides in the energy that we found on set with this cast and this crew. That crazy optimism is one of the reasons why this show made it on air in the first place,” he told The Entrainment Weekly.

The Winchesters premiered on The CW last fall and it chronicles the journey of John Winchester and Mary Campbell, the parents of the Winchester brothers from the original Supernatural series.
