“The Wire” Star Reveals We Almost Got to See a Prequel Movie

Dominic West in "The Wire"

Many consider The Wire which ran from 2002 to 2008 on HBO to be one of the greatest crime/police dramas ever made. The show, created by David Simon and favorited by former president Barack Obama followed the drug trade in the city of Baltimore and the police fighting against it alongside other aspects of the city’s life. Now it turns out we were close to getting a full feature-length movie of the show.

Actor Dominic West who played one of the main characters of the show, Jimmy McNulty, revealed that there were talks about doing such a movie and Simon thought it should be a prequel to the series, “but we were all looking a little long in the tooth,” he said to Empire.

Another option that was being considered is a movie about the younger years of Louis Armstrong. It was supposed to be a crime story, set in New Orleans featuring the entire cast of The Wire, but not a Wire film.

Alongside West, the cast of The Wire included John Doman, Frankie R. Faison, Deirdre Lovejoy, Wendell Pierce, and Idris Elba.
